Project: Improve workplace safety reporting system and reduce the risk of hazards
When the Australian marine terminal operator, DP World, was looking to improve its occupational health and safety (OHS) system, it contacted SCRIM, part of software consultancy firm Accelrelation.
The main issues DP World was seeking to overcome with the new OHS system were:
- Improve the timeliness and accuracy of safety reporting information by reducing the complexity of data entry and reporting and by providing a user-friendly system.
- Reduce the risk of hazards occurring in the business by reducing the completion time of corrective actions
- Reduce the end-of-month incident reporting from several days to a couple of hours
- The ability to, easily and cost-effectively, tailor the system to a changing business environment and continuously changing business requirements.
DP World liked the SCRIM platform as “the application made so much sense because of its seamless integration with the applications the organisation already uses, such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.” They realised how much they could increase their efficiency if they could complete all of their safety reporting in the familiar interface where users spent most of their time.
Below are the benefits DP World received from the SCRIM system
- It is easy to navigate through the various modules and each module provides enough prompts for the user to complete the required information.
- The dashboards provide a quick snapshot of site performance and allow for comparison and the ability to track trends. In addition, the ability to easily create tailored views, as required, reduces the effort required when completing monthly reports.
- The corrective actions module allows for email notifications to be sent to the person who requires action to be taken, which acts as a prompt for action. In addition, the module allows for us to document the actions taken and track progress.
- The solution itself is really flexible, from allowing us to generate our own reports and report filters, to the ability to customise the module, with the help of the team at SCRIM. The ability to customise the product has resulted in a system that meets business needs and is suited to our end-users.
SCRIM is based on Microsoft Dynamics, an integrated, adaptable business management solution. Microsoft Dynamics works like familiar Microsoft software such as Microsoft Office, which meant less of a learning curve for employees, so they were up-and-running quickly and could focus on what’s most important.
SCRIM will be exhibiting at the Safety Show, 25 - 27 October, Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, stand number F30
