WorkSafe announces new leader for health and safety in Victoria
WorkSafe Victoria has announced that the organisation’s Deputy Chief Executive, Ian Forsyth, will assume responsibility for leading WorkSafe’s health and safety operations.
WorkSafe Chair Elana Rubin said that the position is the driving force behind WorkSafe’s prevention and regulatory strategies, and also the public face of partnering with the community to make Victorian workplaces safer.
Prior to being recruited to WorkSafe five years ago, Forsyth held a range of senior executive positions in the financial services and transport accident personal injury insurance industries, beginning his career as a journalist with the ABC.
WorkSafe Chief Executive Greg Tweedly said Ian’s appointment came at a critical time for health and safety in Victoria: “Despite 2009/10 being the safest year on record and the growing community trust in WorkSafe as a regulator, our 10-year safety targets as reflected in our Strategy 2012 remain ambitious, with injury rates trending up since February this year.”
