2025 Champions of Safety Awards nominations close 4 April

An initiative by the Workplace Health & Safety Show, entries close on 4 April for the 2025 Champions of Safety Awards, which shine a light on those making a significant impact on workplace safety. Professionals can nominate themselves or someone else in their organisation and there is no cost.

“We launched the Champions of Safety Awards in 2024 to recognise the safety leaders who are raising the bar, actively making workplaces safer and healthier,” Workplace Health & Safety Show Portfolio Manager Stephen Blackie said. “The nominees and winners were truly inspiring, and we’re excited to receive this year’s nominations.”

There are three award categories:

  • ‘Rising Star’, which recognises an emerging talent who has shown exceptional promise and dedication and is poised to make significant contributions and shape the future of their field;
  • ‘Pioneer’, which is for a trailblazer leading the way in exploring new frontiers, including embodying courage, vision and determination, driving progress in their field, and introducing innovative methodologies; and
  • ‘Icon’, for an individual who has achieved ‘iconic status’ through their excellence, lasting influence and significant contributions in their industry.

“Nominees are assessed against a number of criteria, including their career achievements, safety leadership, the impact and results they’ve achieved, their level of commitment to professional development, and the innovation they bring to their work,” Blackie said. “This is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the individuals who make a contribution to safer, healthier and more productive Australian workplaces.”

The 2025 judging panel includes Corporate Wellbeing Hub CEO Carli Phillips; Natalie Flatt, Chief Mental Health Officer of SuperFriend and co-founder of Connect Psych Services; L’OCCITANE Group Global Mental Health Project Lead Amanda Anderson; Safe Care Culture Chair and board member Stephen Hanman; and Investigations Differently Facilitator and host Mark Alston.

The 2024 winners were:

  • Rising Star: Tina Wieczorek (CEO — Scaffolding, Access and Rigging NZ Inc)
  • Pioneer: Damien Hence (CICA Road Policy Advisor — The Crane Industry Council of Australia)
  • Icon: David Solomon (Executive Officer Safety, Housing and Risk — Master Builders Association of NSW).
