Steel manufacturer celebrates safety milestone
On the cusp of National Safe Work Australia Week, Australian manufacturer Fielders is proud to celebrate a milestone achievement by officially reaching one year with a zero loss time injury frequency rate, despite the manufacturing industry recording nearly double the incident rate compared with other industries in Australia1.
The steel manufacturer who operates 17 sites across Australia, is proud to announce this milestone has resulted from its internal safety standards becoming paramount to the organisation’s daily operations.
Fielders Chief Executive Keith Middleton says the achievement is testament to the company’s focus on quality practices that aim to ensure the highest level of safety throughout all sites across the nation.
“Safety has been a very important part of the Fielders journey and as a result of the practices in place to ensure safety is at the forefront of our operations, we have not encountered one single injury in the past year that has prevented an employee from returning to work the very next day.
“Of course the statistics are not the only important part of this accomplishment. Our safety journey has taught us everything from the way we report near misses, to the way we identify unsafe practices, meaning our employees can come to work knowing that management and fellow team members will support them in working in a safe environment,” said Middleton.
Heading into National Safe Work Australia Week, Middleton also commented on how important it is for Fielders to recognise not only the safety practices in place, but how its employees have contributed to the success.
“The Fielders safety journey is one where all of our employees need to be rewarded and recognised for everything they have done in recent years to make Fielders a much safer place to work. National Safe Work Australia Week is the perfect opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come as a company in terms of our safety goals,” Middleton added.
National Safe Work Australia Week will be celebrated from 21-27 October in 2012 and aims to recognise the contribution employees make to health and safety in the workplace.
Fielders’ Australia-wide operations across 17 manufacturing sites in five states employ more than 700 people. Its main business is in the manufacture and distribution of a range of roll-form metal building products - including roof and gutter material, downpipes, steel flooring systems, carports, sheds and purlins - for the commercial and residential building markets.
