Sitemed receives Arrium Mining contract
Onsite health and emergency response company Sitemed has won the contract to provide medical and rescue services at Arrium Mining’s South Middleback Ranges (SMR) mine site near Whyalla.
Sitemed will support the mine’s 300-strong workforce with a 24/7 on-site medical centre and the capability to respond to a range of medical and emergency incidents.
Sitemed’s general manager, Nicole Nott, said the company was delighted to be able to work with Arrium Mining (formerly OneSteel), which was investing considerable time and resources in South Australia.
“We are focused on working with clients who are completely committed to providing a workplace that doesn’t just meet basic safety requirements, but exceeds these and provides peace of mind for the workforce,” Nott said.
“Arrium Mining has shown its willingness to ensure its employees have access to the very best in medical and rescue services and we’re keen to explore further opportunities to work with Arrium at other mine sites.”
According to Arrium Mining’s general manager Whyalla Mines and Export, Matt Reed, Sitemed was selected based on previous work the company had conducted at the SMR site.
“They came across as a very professional organisation, which is why we were pleased to award them the contract,” Reed said.
“Some of Sitemed’s core values also align with our own - particularly those of safety and customer service - and they have a willingness to form a collaborative partnership.
“We are therefore looking forward to working together with Sitemed to help ensure the health and safety of our employees.”
Sitemed has provided its services to various clients, including Downer EDI and the Adelaide Aqua Consortium, which built the $1.8 billion Adelaide Desalination Plant.
