Rockwell Automation will deliver TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program training to machinery engineers throughout Australia in the coming months.

The TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program is a global vocational training program where knowledge and competencies are approved by a third neutral party and where certificates are issued. Wayne Pearse, Consulting Services Team Leader and Safety Consultant at Rockwell Automation, is a TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Expert and has been providing training across Australia since February. Pearse is one of only 100 internationally approved functional safety experts, having more than 10 years of expertise and long-term experience in the area of functional safety.

“Through my certification as a Functional Safety Expert, Rockwell Automation is able to provide regional expertise and training as an authorised certified training facility,” said Pearse.

Rockwell Automation offers the following TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program courses for Rockwell Automation: Functional Safety for Machinery Introduction, Functional Safety Engineer and Functional Safety Technician.

The training targets a broad group of engineers working in various machinery applications such as the food and beverage, steel, aluminium, manufacturing and mining industries.

The Functional Safety for Machinery Introduction is the first course taken by students and covers the design and proof requirements for functional safety of machines, according to current standards and guidelines.

Once completed, participants should have the knowledge necessary to take the Functional Safety Engineer certification course. In this course, participants will be shown how current standards dictate the design and proof of functional safety for machines.

“The participant will learn how safety devices and components are assembled and applied to reduce hazards from machinery so the necessary safety for people and environment is achieved,” said Pearse.

This course includes an optional exam, which must be passed by participants to receive the Functional Safety Engineer Certificate.

Rockwell Automation also offers the Functional Safety Technician certification course, which covers topics such as redundancy, testing, distance calculations, fault avoidance and more.

“In this training, students will learn how the current standards dictate the selection, assembly, installation, validation and maintenance of safety devices and components to reduce hazards from machinery and ensure the safety of people and the environment,” said Pearse.

Rockwell Automation is offering the following training sessions in Australia in the coming months:

Location  TÜV Functional Safety for Machinery (4 days) TÜV Functional Safety Certification Test (0.5 days)
