Sleep risk symposium

The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research is holding a one-day symposium entitled 'Sleep Loss - Risk and Solutions in the Workplace' on Monday 13 October, at the Powerhouse Museum Sydney.
The symposium will be opened by the Hon. John Della Bosca MLC, NSW Special Minister of State, Minister for Industrial Relations and Assistant Treasurer and will feature leading international and local experts in sleep and fatigue research.
Ground-breaking work from the University of Pennsylvania will be presented on how even a modest reduction in sleep time can result in a marked reduction in an employee's alertness, leading to accidents and reduced productivity. New results from the Australian Transport Workers Sleep Health Survey will also be discussed.
Attendees will learn: How to identify worker's at risk; The causes of sleep loss; Ways to reduce risks and keep the employee in the workplace; the medico-legal implications of an employee with sleep loss.
