New chairman at ASCC
Tuesday, 21 March, 2006
Bill Scales has been appointed the new Chairman of the Australian Safety Compensation Council (ASCC) and Shane Freeman has been promoted to Deputy Chairman.
The appointment announced recently by the Hon. Kevin Andrews MP, Federal Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Scales, who previously served as Deputy Chairman of the ASCC, brings to the position a background in public policy and business.
Scales previously served as the head of the Productivity Commission and Public Service in Victoria, and more recently as group managing director, Regulatory, Corporate and Human Relations with Telstra Corporation.
As the new Deputy Chairman, Freeman has extensive experience as a manager of both human resources, OHS and corporate affairs. Freeman is currently group general manager, People Capital and Breakout at ANZ Bank.
Through a partnership of governments, employers and employees, the ASCC is taking the lead in coordinating national efforts to prevent workplace death, injury and disease; to improve workers' compensation arrangements, and the rehabilitation and return to work of injured workers.
Scales and Freeman will play key roles and work closely with the other ASCC members to promote national consistency and uniformity in OHS and workers' compensation frameworks.
