The acting chief executive officer WorkCover NSW, John Watson, has announced a revised Code of Practice for Noise Management and Protection of Hearing at Work.

"The code has been updated to assist employers, self-employed people and employees develop and implement practices for noise management and protection of hearing at work," said Watson. "Noise induced hearing loss accounts for nearly 30% of all permanent employment injuries reported in NSW," he said.

"The original code, which had been in force since 31 May 1997, was updated to reflect the current occupational health and safety legislation." The revised code adopts the provisions of the National Code of Practice for Noise Management and Protection of Hearing produced by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission.

"The revised code includes generic information relating to the importance of occupational health and safety, including an employer's obligation to consult with employees on OHS matters," said Watson.
