Lowest ever injury rate in Vic

Monday, 05 March, 2007

Victoria enjoyed its lowest injury rate ever between July-December 2006, according to the latest financial and operational results to be released by the Victorian WorkCover Authority (VWA).

The state also experienced its lowest ever average premium rate of 1.62%.

"Victoria is now a safer and more cost-effective place to work and do business," VWA chair, Elana Rubin said.

"The turnaround in workplace safety, premiums and support for injured workers has only been achieved because of the strong partnerships we've built with stakeholders and the community."

Rubin did say, however, that the 15 workplace fatalities experienced in the first half of the financial year are a reminder that there is still more work to do.

"Even though our financial results are satisfying, there's no room for complacency on workplace safety. It's a responsibility everyone shares and we'll be working even harder to help employers and workers create an environment where everybody can make it home from work safely," she said.
