Licence conversion reminder
Thursday, 18 May, 2006
WorkCover NSW has issued a reminder to holders of all pre-1996 WorkCover licences to operate equipment and erect scaffolding that the deadline to convert their licences runs out next month (30 June, 2006).
"This affects all workers who were issued with NSW Certificates of Competency before 1996 to operate cranes, forklifts, bulldozers, front-end loaders and other plant and equipment, and erect scaffolding," said WorkCover chief executive officer, Jon Blackwell.
"Holders of the old licences should be aware that after 30 June, 2006 they will no longer be able to convert to the new, National Certificate of Competency (NCOC), and will have to undergo an assessment to obtain a licence," said Blackwell.
"Until June, 2006, WorkCover offices will convert pre-1996 licences on production of the original licence, completion of a conversion form and payment of a $30 fee," he said.
"Workers who received their NCOCs between 1996 and March 2004 inclusive have been progressively contacted by WorkCover to commence their licence renewal process.
"This has included a proof of identity check and the introduction of a new five-year photo licence. Licences issued after 31 March 2004 already have a 5-year expiry.'
Anyone who is unsure how to convert their licence before the deadline should call WorkCover NSW on 13 10 50 or visit the WorkCover website.
