Coroner releases details of work-related deaths
Monday, 24 July, 2006
The Victorian State Coroner's Office has launched an online newsletter featuring details of work-related cases in an effort to prevent further fatalities.
WorkWise will be published quarterly and will focus on real work cases and news relevant to the safety of workers and employers.
The State Coroner of Victoria, Graeme Johnstone, said the modern coroner is concerned with helping the working community to learn from each investigation into a work death in order to prevent further deaths.
"The experience of coroners is that most deaths at work are preventable. We regularly see repeats of the same types of events with problems with supervision, training on new equipment, failure to follow codes or to think about the risk being taken," he said.
