Alcohol and drugs guideline revision

Friday, 09 February, 2007

WorkCover has launched a revised version of the Alcohol and Other Drugs in the Workplace guide.

The revised guide outlines procedures for identification and management of risks involving the misuse of alcohol and other drugs.

WorkCover NSW chief executive officer, Jon Blackwell said the guidelines encourage employers to take a preventive approach to manage drug-and alcohol-related risks.

"The misuse of alcohol and drugs at work is a significant concern for workers and employers, and can contribute to productivity losses, absenteeism and lateness, anti-social behaviour, and unlawful conduct," Blackwell said.

The guide was developed following the recommendations from the 2003 NSW Alcohol Summit with key industry stakeholders including employers, unions and health workers.

The revised guide is available from the WorkCover website.
