Marcom Watson lone worker monitoring system
The Marcom Watson lone worker monitoring system has been developed to reduce risk and improve workplace safety for personnel working in hazardous environments and those that may be the sole worker on-site outside normal business hours. It acts as a modern version of the traditional ‘dead man’s handle’.
The monitoring system utilises two-way radio operation to confirm the personnel being monitored are active and are responding. It requests that an operator press the push-to-talk (PTT) button on the handset/mobile radio at regular intervals and acknowledge an automatic voice page from the base radio.
In the event there is no response to the page, an alarm event will occur after five consecutive non-responses. The alarm notifications can be distributed by a number of means, including SMS, email and alarm dialler. An iPhone integration application is also available.
If the field unit fails through a flat battery, or accident, an alarm will automatically be generated, and the system will generate a time- and date-stamped email-based log of actions originated and responded to. The notifications can also be completely tailored to suit customer requirements.
Another refinement of the worker safety system is that it integrates a text-to-speech engine, so that email-generated messages can be heard as speech messages over the air. Similarly, a reply by pressing the PTT will generate an email acknowledgement to the originator confirming a message has been received.
