Draeger X-plore 1720 and 1320 disposable masks offer protection against the different types of diesel particulate matter (DPM). DPM is a particulate fraction of diesel exhaust which is released as a result of incomplete combustion and classified as a human carcinogen by the World Health Organisation.

Each Draeger X-plore P2 disposable mask was tested against three different types of DPM at 12 mg loading and 25 mg loading. The loading of the masks with 12 mg and 25 mg DPM is to simulate an average exposure per work shift (eight hours) in an underground environment.

The performance of all tested masks after exposure to DPM exceeds the minimum requirements according to AS/NZS 1716 in terms of filtration efficiency.

The mean efficiency after DPM exposure under laboratory conditions is 98.1%. Draeger recommends replacing the mask once the breathing resistance is perceived to be uncomfortable. The X-plore 1720 and 1320 series of masks will protect against both coal dust and DPM.
