The E-A-Rfit validation system provides an objective, personalised attenuation rating (PAR) for each worker.
Once a subject is fitted, it takes less than 10 s per ear to measure across seven octave bands. Along with the PAR, estimates of workers’ fit variability are automatically calculated.
Ratings can then be compared across earplugs and fittings to determine the best fit. Easy-to-understand test results are documented for each test subject, both in print and electronic formats, for future reference.
3M’s in-the-ear testing procedure differs from other systems by providing quantitative data that does not rely on subject response.
The system establishes baseline values for new workers and helps identify workers receiving inadequate protection that can leave them at risk of threshold shifts. It validates high protection levels required by workers in high noise areas, provides a tool for training proper insertion techniques and motivates employees by helping them realise the control they have to protect their hearing.
Protection levels can be validated while wearing a range of the company’s E-A-R earplugs, including specially probed versions of E-A-R foam and pre-moulded earplugs.
