Safe Work Australia (SWA) is encouraging all employers and workers to become safety champions this October National Safe Work Month. The ‘Be a Safety Champion’ campaign aims to empower people in all occupations and industries to promote and implement work health and safety (WHS) best practices. The campaign kit, released on 6 August, includes ready-made and customisable posters, flyers and web graphics which can be put up around the workplace to raise WHS awareness.
While SWA has seen a steady decline in work-related fatalities and compensation claims since its inception in 2008, work-related injury and disease still cost the Australian community $61.8 billion in a year. Ultimately, SWA’s goal is to improve workplace safety and eliminate work-related death, injuries, illness and related financial costs.
