Recognised for practising workplace health and safety

For Stuart Kenny, managing director of the Ausclad Group of Companies (AGC), supporting a workplace event to recognise Safe Work Australia Week is a top priority. Since winning the Safe Work Australia 'Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System' award earlier this year, Kenny and the Ausclad Group have reinforced their commitment towards being recognised as leaders in the field of workplace safety.

AGC supplies total engineering solutions including fabrication, construction and maintenance across a variety of industries. AGC has established itself as a leading engineering support and maintenance organisation, providing shutdown activities, plant modification and reinstatement services within civil, structural, piping, oil and gas, refractory, insulation and off-site fabrication and refurbishment disciplines. Because of such diversity, AGC operations may impact on the health and safety of people, the environment or community.

AGC's committed approach towards the health and safety of its employees, subcontractors and visitors is demonstrated through the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Corporate Safety, Health and Environmental (HSE) Management System.

AGC's system incorporates and demonstrates executive, senior and line management responsibility and accountabilities. Its policies are developed through transparent and consultative processes.

"The award is an achievement that all Ausclad Group employees can be proud of," Kenny said. "To demonstrate our commitment to continuous improvement toward the health and safety of our employees, we conducted workplace activities during 21-27 October in support of national Safe Work Australia Week."

Safe Work Australia Week focused attention on workplace safety issues around Australia, encouraging all working Australians to get involved in, and concentrate on, safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease.

"If you are a company that values OHS performance in your workplace, getting involved in Safe Work Australia Week was an important way to demonstrate commitment to improving these issues," Kenny said. "Employers and employees need to recognise that improved OHS performance has a very significant effect on an organisation's productivity - that has certainly been the case at AGC."

"Our Safe Work Australia award has brought industry recognition for all AGC personnel for their continued support and commitment to an agreed set of values and principles. To be measured by our industry peers in an open and transparent manner is part of the continuous improvement journey that is required for all systems and processes to improve."
