Wind farm fatality under investigation
A worker has been crushed by a wind turbine blade at the Rokewood Golden Plains Wind Farm.
According to WorkSafe Victoria, which is investigating the incident, a number of blades were at ground level being prepared for a lift when one of them dislodged from a supporting platform — striking and killing the 36-year-old man just after 8 am on 11 November.
According to AWU Victoria, the incident has occurred against a backdrop of mounting safety concerns at the project. Ronnie Hayden, AWU Victoria State Secretary, said the AWU had previously raised the alarm about the mounting pressure on workers due to significant project delays.
“This is not just another statistic, this is a worker who went to work and never came home,” Hayden said.
