Without monitoring, it is not possible to determine if a shipping container is safe to enter. Regulations, such as those of WorkSafe Victoria, have guidelines requiring 24 hour open-door ventilation. Similarly, the Australian Standard Fumigation Procedures require at least six hours' ventilation of containers after fumigation.
Nordiko Quarantine Systems has introduced the Maxi-Flow Ventilation System which has been designed to safely address the problems created by residual gases in shipping containers.
Nordiko's system cuts these waiting times by providing a simple extraction method that then allows for gas levels to be monitored, thereby improving efficiency and turnaround time.
It does this by extracting a range of residual gases that are often left trapped inside containers. These gases are typically highly toxic and harmful for both workers and the environment.
The system comes with an optional filter which traps residual gases on a replaceable carbon filter. Capturing residual gases has the added benefit of reducing their ozone-depleting impact on the atmosphere.
The system works like this: a measurement is taken of the levels of gas inside the container; the Maxi-Flow Ventilation System is attached to the container by way of clip-on locks; residual gases are removed swiftly and safely using extraction fans; a further reading is then taken using the monitor provided on the system. Once the gas has been removed to an acceptable and safe level, the container may be opened and unpacked. The entire process is completed in minutes.
