Spill and flood containment

Aqua-Sac is a self-inflating, sand-less sandbag that consists of a sturdy jute sack containing a super-absorbent polymer (SAP), which is retained inside a finely woven inner cotton bag. Soaked in fresh water in a tub or sink, the device inflates in 3-5 minutes to 30 times its original size.

Compact when uninflated (delivered in vacuum-sealed bags) and with a 5-year shelf life, the bags can be easily stored and transported and therefore are readily at hand.

Similar in size to traditional sandbags, Aqua-Sac weighs 13 kg (compared to 25-30 kg for a sandbag) thus reducing manual handling risks.

The bags are self-contained and tidy enough for indoor as well as outdoor use. They can be used to build flood defence or simply to absorb seepage.

Stacks are made stable by the flat shape of the bags when inflated and connecting the opposing sides of the envelopes.

The bags feature a biodegradable envelope and inert, non-toxic filling, making them suitable for disposal in landfill or incineration plants.
