The DynOptic Systems SM-202 opacity monitor is a dust particle and smoke monitoring system designed for use in industrial applications.
Using light transmission opacity techniques, a base measurement of transmission is made. From this measurement the instrument can be calibrated to report in units of opacity (%), volumetric density (mg/m3), Ringelmann, MOR (km), extinction and various logarithmic functions. The instrument consists of a flange-mounted sensor, transmitter and receiver and an operator interface that can be fitted up to 1 km away, either at the base of the stack or in a control room. All signal processing is performed in the sensor. Data is exported via an RS485 serial link to the operator interface, which has a human interface in the form of a display/keypad and an electronic interface in the form of relay contacts, analog outputs and serial comms. Both heads are supplied with stainless steel air purge bodies, which when connected to an airline will serve to protect the optical surfaces from dirt and particulate deposition — prolonging service intervals. The sensors have quick-release catches for ease of maintenance.
