The OHS compliance course is designed for individuals with OHS responsibilities in more than one jurisdiction, guiding them through the similarities and differences across state and territory borders.
The course aims to identify best practice in matters of OHS legislation, including duties, defence mechanisms, compliance regimes and penalties.
The course addresses: duties of care — who owes what to whom; ‘reasonably practicable’ and risk management; consultation, participation and representation; roles of OHS regulators and advisers; compliance and enforcement; prosecutions; and emerging issues.
Participants will learn how to: explain the three-tier model regulating OHS adopted throughout Australia; identify duty holders; define duties-of-care, include scope and limits of duties across all jurisdictions; understand enforcement and compliance, include roles and powers of OHS inspectors and the application of enforcement tools, including codes of practice; describe workplace-based consultation, participation and representation provisions, including appointment, powers and functions of representatives or committees; and identify permits and licensing arrangements for those engaged in high-risk work.
