Product recall of faulty gas detector
The Department of Mining Safety and Health has issued a product recall of Industrial Scientific’s 4CF carbon monoxide sensors, after finding some makes could suddenly stop detecting the gas.
According to the product recall alert, the sensors could fail to respond to the presence of the deadly gas. This loss of sensitivity has been characterised as unexpected and catastrophic, inhibiting the ability to detect and respond to carbon monoxide.
The department stated that only specific makes of the detector are affected. It has requested all mines to investigate if these monitors are used in their operations.
The sensors are also used in a number of devices by other manufacturers.
Mines should follow the manufacturer’s procedures to identify the devices and return them.
