Workplace fatality statistics
Australian-based health and safety consultant, Achievable Solutions, has recently issued some sobering statistics about workplace fatalities in Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world that emphasise the need for all of us to be more proactive about safety in our workplaces.
The current and up-to-date [(ocumented) fatality count for this year, as at 30 September 2009, is:
- Australia - 49
- New Zealand - 30
- Rest of world - 1339
- Total - 1418
These statistics break down to the following mortality rates:
- 5.54 deaths per day;
- 38.32 deaths per week; or
- 202.57 deaths per month.
The total represents an increase in mortality rates of 27.29 per month over same period last year.
