WA safety awards now open

Friday, 13 May, 2016

Businesses are being encouraged to take time out and enter the prestigious Work Safety Awards Western Australia 2016.

WorkSafe WA Commissioner Lex McCulloch said the awards publicly acknowledge the excellent workplace innovations and OHS systems being developed in WA.

“The Work Safety Awards Western Australia recognise outstanding occupational safety and health management, solutions and innovation in both public and private sector workplaces in WA that reduce the risk of work-related injury and disease,” said McCulloch.

“I often come across excellent but unrecognised occupational safety and health practices, so if your organisation has made a change that has improved safety in your workplace, take the time to tell us about it.

“It is important that organisations are given the chance to celebrate their success together with their employees, because everyone benefits from good workplace safety and health practice.”

The award categories for 2016 include:

  • Best workplace safety and health management system
  • Best solution to an identified workplace safety and health issue
  • Best workplace safety and health practices in small business
  • Best individual contribution to workplace safety and health (Safety & health representative and OHS Manager/person with OHS responsibilities)

McCulloch said the application process has been simplified so applicants won’t have to complete a large amount of paperwork to nominate.

“The Work Safety Awards Western Australia present a terrific opportunity for businesses to get the recognition they deserve for their management of workplace safety and health,” he added.

Nominations close on 8 July. Winners will be announced during Safe Work Month in October.
