Safest driver gets congratulated

Santos GLNG has recognised its safest driver in Queensland, employee Steve See, who last year drove more than 33,000 km - or to Europe and back - with a flawless driving record.

See, a team leader for Santos in the Roma region, was presented with Santos GLNG’s ‘Safe Drive Award’ for his outstanding commitment to road safety.

Santos Vice President Queensland Trevor Brown said safety was a core value at Santos GLNG and congratulated Steve on driving so many kilometres while adhering to all of Santos GLNG’s strict safe driving requirements at all times.

“Steve’s job involves driving to work sites across the Maranoa region to check safety permit compliance up to 30 times each day,” Brown said.

“We expect all of our employees to meet high standards at all times, which may sound easy, but we have in-vehicle monitoring systems in all Santos GLNG vehicles that track many aspects of driving behaviour.

“On top of the basics of road safety - such as speed and seatbelts - this includes additional requirements such as using only roads that we have approval to use, always keeping to low speeds on private properties and engaging 4WD when driving on unsealed roads.

“This means we can be 100% sure that Steve has gone above and beyond the basic standards of road safety over a significant distance and set an example that all of us at Santos GLNG and in the community should aspire to.”

See said he was proud of his achievement, but driving safely was more important than receiving personal awards.

“When I set off in the morning, I think about getting to each work site and getting my job done safely, and then returning home safely to my family each night,” See said.

Brown thanked Steve for his efforts in promoting a safe driving culture across the organisation and said he was looking forward to seeing how well Santos GLNG employees perform throughout 2014.
