Free safety information for NSW businesses during June
NSW Finance Minister Joe Tripodi recently announced a series of free workshops to be held during June to assist businesses with OHS and workers compensation responsibilities. As part of Manual Handling Month, the workshop series will focus on how to reduce the incidence of injuries in the workplace.
“WorkCover will hold 20 workshops across metropolitan and regional New South Wales to help businesses improve safety and reduce the risk of manual handling injuries,” the Minister said. “The workshops will provide practical advice so employers can develop ways to manage risks and implement safe work plans and also have a better understanding of their workers compensation and return to work obligations.
“WorkCover’s Business Assistance Group has presented more than 800 free workshops across the state in the past three years. Business Advisory Officers are also available to meet directly with employers at their workplace to provide free safety advice tailored to the specific needs of their business.
“Our increased focus on providing practical advice has helped reduce workplace injuries to their lowest levels in 20 years. Although safety rates are improving, around 30,000 people are still seriously injured at work each year.”
Details of the workshops are available at www.workcover.nsw.gov.au/safebusiness or by calling 1800 624 097.
