Code for mentally healthy FIFO workplaces launched
The first code of practice for promoting mentally healthy FIFO workplaces has been launched in WA.
On 2 April the Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston announced the code, which is designed for the resources and construction sectors.
Developed following extensive public consultation, the 'Mentally healthy workplaces for fly-in fly-out workers in the resources and construction sectors' code aims to address hazards and risk factors in FIFO workplaces.
It was created following recommendations from a Legislative Assembly Committee report on the impact of FIFO practices on workers' mental health, and has been endorsed by the Commission for Occupational Safety and Health and the Mining Industry Advisory Committee.
