Registrations are now open for the inaugural Australasian Road Safety Conference (ARSC2015), which is shaping up to be bigger than its predecessors after an overwhelming response to the call for abstracts saw more than 280 submissions received for consideration.

The conference, to be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 14–16 October, merges the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) Conference and the Australasian Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference (RSRPE).

ARSC2015 is expected to attract over 400 delegates working across portfolios and industries responsible for improving road safety outcomes.

Professor Narelle Haworth, CARRS-Q acting director and conference chair, said the conference organising committee has been thrilled with the level of interest shown for this new event by both the Australian and overseas road safety and injury prevention communities.

“Covering a wide variety of topics and themes relevant to the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety, abstract submissions have been received from all over the world, from both established and emerging road safety researchers and practitioners,” said Haworth.

“Overarching themes include road safety management, infrastructure, safe vehicles, user behaviour and post crash care.”

With the theme of ‘Taking Action Together’, the conference program will showcase the latest in research, practice and developments in road safety, together with important insights from keynote speakers including: Dr Barry Watson, CEO of the Global Road Safety Partnership in Geneva; Gavin Smith, CEO of Bosch Australia; and Professor Brian Owler, president of the Australian Medical Association.

The scientific program, featuring keynote, oral and poster presentations, as well as interactive symposia, will be released on the ARSC2015 website on Monday 13 July.

The prestigious 2015 Australasian College of Road Safety Awards will once again be held this year, recognising exemplary projects and people working to save lives and reduce injuries on Australian roads.

The 2015 Australasian Road Safety Conference is an initiative of the Australasian College of Road Safety and Austroads, and is supported by the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q) and Platinum Partner Queensland Government.

Early-bird discounts end on 14 August. For further information, visit www.australasianroadsafetyconference.com.au or contact conference manager Renee von Schwan on email acrs2015@qut.edu.au or phone +61 7 3138 4936.
