The Safety Show: the countdown begins
Wednesday, 25 July, 2012
When: Tuesday 23 October 2012 (10 am - 4 pm)
Wednesday 24 October 2012 (9 am - 4 pm)
Thursday 25 October 2012 (9 am - 4 pm)
Where: Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park
Last year, when close to 10,000 OHS professionals convened at the Sydney Olympic Park, the then impending implementation of new workplace health and laws was a hot topic of discussion. Almost a year has passed, and now the businesses that operate in the jurisdictions that have implemented the new laws are ready to share their stories and lessons learned from implementation. The Safety Show 2012 will provide visitors with an opportunity to share industry insights and latest developments, and find the latest OHS products, services and ideas. Free industry seminars and workshops will be held in conjunction with the trade show.
Separately, The Safety Conference, presented by the Safety Institute of Australia and sponsored by WorkCover NSW, will include a range of presentations and workshops by Australian and international speakers in a three-day program providing insight into health and safety legislation, practical solutions for workplaces and an opportunity to participate in discussion groups facilitated by the state regulator.
The Safety Show Live Demonstration Stage will allow visitors to enjoy a hands-on, interactive experience by watching and learning how a product works. Visitors will be given the opportunity to see the true benefits on offer, experiencing how various safety solutions can increase safety in the workplace. The demonstration stage will be located on the trade show floor, with free presentations made throughout the duration of the show.
The event will be of interest to OHS managers, OHS officers, risk managers, production managers, logistics managers, warehouse managers, QA managers, site managers, project managers, maintenance managers, engineers, plant managers, building contractors, rehabilitation coordinators, emergency services personnel, union representatives, foremen, occupational therapists and HR managers.
Co-located shows include Sydney Materials Handling and CleanScene - The National Cleaning & Hygiene Expo, which runs biennially between Sydney and Melbourne.
Workwear, including safety eyewear, will be one of the key features of the show. Huski has expanded its ladies workwear/safety range to cater to increased demand by women for well-made and properly fitting safety garments. Vision Safe will show the recently released UVeto Australia range of safety sunglasses, while Specsavers and OPSM will exhibit comprehensive ranges of high-tech prescription safety glasses.
An interesting stand will be that of Paramedical Services, a private Sydney ambulance company established in 1991. It will show how it manages worker injuries with its Worker Injury Response Service (WIRS) - a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week triage and ambulance response service. The injured worker is assessed, treated and transferred to the preferred medical provider and comprehensive documentation is provided as well as thorough follow-up and support. The organisation benefits with a reduction in injury lost time and savings in workers compensation premiums.
Much of the equipment at The Safety Show Sydney has been designed for use in remote areas. At the Pelican stand, the focus will be on remote area lighting systems (RALS), designed with LED technology to provide a better quality of light, high reliability and low energy consumption. The result is energy efficiency and low long-term operating and maintenance costs. The portable Pelican ProGear 9420 LED work light is equipped with two LEDs (1000 lumens of light and 4 hours of burn time), plus a 1.5-metre-high mast that deploys easily in seconds and illuminates the entire work area without the hassle of power cords.
