Safety in Action heading to Outback Australia
Australian safety trade show Safety in Action is heading to Outback Australia. The exhibition will take over the Darwin Convention Centre from 19-20 March 2014 and will be a one-stop shop for all things safety.
Safety in Action Darwin is a two-day exhibition that will feature a comprehensive range of the latest safety-related products and services from around the country. It will also provide attendees with opportunities to hear from some of the industry’s most innovative and safety-conscious brains.
With Australia’s unemployment rate at relative highs, it is refreshing to note that the Northern Territory has the lowest unemployment rate of any Australian state or territory. Darwin holds the title for the territory’s healthiest job market with the largest employment sector, mining, comprising 23.4% of all Darwin industries. The mining and energy industry production alone surpasses $2.5 billion per annum in the Darwin region.
Exclusive to Safety in Action Darwin, Safe Work Australia will be hosting a one-off free training session on the popular subject: ‘The Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals’. With previous training having sold out, this exclusive session will provide attendees with the knowledge they need to know with regards to the new labelling classification of chemicals.
A series of free seminars centred around key industries will also take place, allowing attendees to learn directly from leaders and experts from various safety-related fields. One of the must-see presentations uncovers the benefits and risks associated with implementing safety management software. myosh Managing Director Adrian Manessis will lead the seminar, offering a breakdown of what safety management software is, and how it can best be used within an organisation. ‘Keeping peoples’ minds on the job’ to ensure injury-free activity is a particularly hot topic of discussion and will headline a seminar given by SafeStart Managing Director Cristian Sylvestre. The presentation will address the importance ‘self’ plays in injuries and offers audiences a different perspective on incident causation.
Health by Design Director Greg McLoughlin will head up the ‘Health, injury prevention, mental health, fatigue and safety: joining the dots for optimal outcomes’ seminar with a team of industry experts who will bring their legal, procedural and insurance knowledge to the table.
Drugs and alcohol in the industry will also be discussed in a panel conversation from Australian Drug Foundation Head of Workplace Services Phillip Collins and Rapid Test Director Matthew Fry. The session will cover a variety of topics from legal and privacy issues, drug and alcohol testing logistics to software and hardware options and case studies.
Thermal Performance Physiologist and Director Dr Matt Brearley will present ‘Maximising health, safety and performance in heat’, a seminar which tackles Australia’s tropical climate, now and into the future. Audiences will gain some insights into practical methods for monitoring staff in the field, hydration and heat storage as two discrete issues, implementation of practical cooling strategies and staff retention through heat stress mitigation.
The events listed above are just some of the many engaging and informative safety seminars that will comprise the exhibition. This is a great opportunity for any professionals involved in safety to keep up to date within an industry that continues to change and expand.
With Safety in Action, Informa Exhibitions Australia will continue to deliver the high-quality trade shows that have made these events the big-calendar dates for safety industry professionals.
Starting from 2014, all shows across Australia will be known as Safety In Action. One major three-day show will run in September each year, alternating between Sydney and Melbourne. Shows in Perth and Brisbane will be held in June and April across alternating years and the newly added two-day show in Darwin, commencing in March 2014, is planned to be held every four years.
