Safety In Action 2010 and Melbourne Materials Handling
Safety In Action 2010, in conjunction with Melbourne Materials Handling, promises to be a valuable event for all safety professionals and anyone else involved in all aspects of safety and materials handling.
The three-day show, from 20 to 22 April, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, features a substantial exhibition that boasts over 300 exhibitors and a comprehensive conference. It is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors. The event will provide all OHS professionals and business managers with a tremendous amount to gain from attending the trade show and/or conference.
Six months ago, the Safety Show Sydney boasted 10,162 visits, which signalled a strong interest from industry to re-invest in safety activities as the economy prepared to rebound in 2010. This trend heralds expectations of a similar nature for the Melbourne edition of the event this April.
Safety In Action features the latest products and services pertaining to the safety manager role. These include personal protective equipment; health and safety management software; risk management tools; safety signage; security and communication equipment; health and safety consultants; insurance products; medical and rehabilitation services; first aid; ergonomics and office safety; vehicle safety; hygiene services and equipment; and legislation advisory organisations.
For those with responsibilities that take in fire protection and security, the Fire & Security feature, which was launched in 2009, showcases installation systems, fire and emergency training, and fire-retardant garments. Visitors don’t have to have specific safety responsibilities to benefit from this universally applicable feature as it has also proven highly relevant to architects, facility managers, specifiers, security consultants and building managers.
Other highlights of the exhibition include products and services in the corporate health, building and height safety, training and technology, and electrical safety sectors, as well as a free workshop on day one for health and safety representatives.
The conference is held over three days and addresses the latest issues on OHS and features an impressive line-up of Australian and international industry experts, including keynote addresses from Andrew Hopkins, Professor of Sociology at Australian National University, and Stan Krpan, Director of Worksafe.
The conference program features nine distinct streams that cover topics such as ‘CEOs/Leaders: Climate for OHS Change’, ‘Contractor Management’ and ‘Health and Wellbeing’.
On Monday 19 April, prior to the three-day conference and trade exhibition, The Safety Institute of Australia will host the inaugural Dr Eric Wigglesworth AM Memorial Lecture, featuring Professor Patrick Hudson - a leading international authority on safety management.
