Ride shut down over safety concerns for unrestrained passenger

Fair Trading Minister Eleni Petinos instructed SafeWork NSW to consider closing the Free Fall ride for the remainder of the 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show, following a safety incident in which a child was unrestrained while the ride was in operation. Petinos said she has a zero-tolerance approach towards any operator who fails to provide the highest possible safety standards. Petinos said the ride was closed to facilitate an investigation into the incident. “Safety is my number one priority and any operator who fails to provide the highest level of safety standards should face severe consequences,” Petinos said.

Inspectors from SafeWork NSW, including their specialist engineering team, investigated the incident and were a presence for the remainder of the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
